Bone Density Scans
Measures bone density as a means to diagnose osteoporosis.
According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1 in 5 men over the age of 55 and 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 will experience a fracture due to osteoporosis.
Your Provider will help determine if you are a candidate for a bone density scan.
Ultrasound
Uses high-frequency sound waves as the first line of diagnostic imaging in determining the source of disease
Allows radiologist to see internal body structures such as tendons, muscles, joints, vessels, and internal organs.
The radiologist can often determine the source of disease or exclude any pathology.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
Our state-of-the-art MRI scanner uses a strong magnet together with radio waves.
Images show differences between normal and abnormal anatomy.
We also offer MRA (magnetic resonance angiography), which generates images of the arteries to evaluate them for abnormal narrowing or aneurysms.

CT / Cat Scan
Our Phillips CT scanner’s cross-sectional images allow us to view tissue and organs.
Scans can be used to detect cancer and a tumor’s location, size, shape, and other characteristics
Scans are also used for post-traumatic injury evaluation and suspected aneurysm or stroke assessment.

Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear Medicine uses small amounts of radioactive material, called radiotracers, to diagnose and/or treat a variety of diseases, such as cancer and heart disease.
The procedure is safe, uses only the necessary amount of radiation to deliver a diagnosis, and leaves the body within a few days.

Our team of Medical Laboratory Scientists and Certified Phlebotomists/Laboratory Assistants are dedicated to delivering accurate and timely results to help meet your needs and manage your health.
We are a certified collection site for DOT and non-DOT testing. In addition, as a Member of the Association for the Advancement of Blood Therapies, we provide blood transfusions for patients needing that life-saving procedure.

If you need Physical, Occupational, or Speech Therapy, please ask your primary doctor for a referral. You will then bring the referral, your picture ID, and your insurance card to our Rehabilitation Department. We will work with your insurance company to get the authorization needed for you to receive therapy.
We treat a wide range of injuries and conditions, including sprains, strains, and tears; post-surgical rehabilitation; neurological disorders such as stroke, brain injury, or spinal cord injury; neck and back pain; speech and issues with swallowing.
PHYSICAL THERAPY
Our physical therapy services offer treatment for those who are experiencing pain or having difficulty in functioning, moving, or living life normally.

Occupational Therapy

Speech Therapy
Our Speech Therapists (Speech-Language Pathologists) provide evaluation and treatment for those with communication disorders such as speech, language, voice, or fluency issues. They also treat cognitive challenges, including memory, concentration, safety awareness, and problems with swallowing, such as coughing or choking when eating or drinking. Diagnoses that may warrant the services of a Speech-Language Pathologist include, but are not limited to, those detailed below.

OUR SERVICES

We are a Critical Access Hospital and a designated Level 4 Trauma Center serving a 70-mile radius by providing essential emergency services.

We diagnose and treat life-threatening illnesses and injuries and serve those who need immediate medical care. Our emergency providers have special training to provide advanced life-saving care, including trauma resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support, advanced airway management, and stabilization.

HEALTH ISSUES REQUIRING EMERGENCY TREATMENT
There are many life-threatening issues that require immediate emergency care, including the following:

WHAT WE DO
Our Emergency Medical Services team...
  • includes advanced life support personnel and every unit is ACLS/PALS/CPR/NRP certified.
  • serves as a professional, technical extension of SVH medical services to Sierra County and surrounding areas.
  • operates ambulances staffed with two (2) licensed EMS personnel 24/7.
  • is one of the only Critical Care Ground Transports in the entire state
  • assists both in the hospital and out in the field.
  • staffs a 9-person Crisis Intervention Team, Swiftwater Rescue Team, and Technical Rescue Team.
  • answers and responds to more than 3,800 calls per year.

OUR PURPOSE
Sierra Vista Hospital Community EMS (CEMS) program is a branch of the EMS Department that specializes in helping bridge the healthcare gap once patients are discharged.
OUR SERVICES
The focus of the program is to:
  • assist with patient education and care plans.
  • help patients access their prescription medications.
  • aid patient follow-up care with primary care physicians.
  • facilitate transportation to appointments.
  • assist with identifying the risk of injury in homes.
  • distribute fall prevention equipment through the SVH Trauma Program.
  • help mitigate incidence of high utilization 911 callers by doing follow-up visits and assisting patients with referrals to appropriate care providers or social services personnel.

Our services include the following:

FAMILY MEDICINE / INTERNAL MEDICINE
We serve all ages and cover all types of medical conditions, from aches and pains to high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid issues, and other non-emergency medical needs, including DOT exams and sports physicals.
Behavioral Health
Our licensed therapists provide a wide variety of services, including, but not limited to, therapy and medical management for mental health, anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, and substance abuse.
Sleep Center
We provide sleep consults to determine if a sleep study is needed.
CHILDREN’S WELLCARE
We provide exams and vaccinations for children from birth through high school.
GENERAL SURGERY CONSULTS
We offer consults to determine if a procedure or surgery is needed, including, but not limited to, colonoscopy, endoscopy, hernia repair, gall bladder removal, and skin lesion removal.

SONIA SEUFER, MD
Board certified in Family Medicine, Sonia attended medical school at University of Colorado-Denver and completed her residency in Family Medicine at Banner University in Phoenix Arizona. She has been in practice for 30+ years, in California, Texas, Colorado and. most recently, Arizona. She is bilingual in English and Spanish and is excited to be a part of the community. She sees patients of all age groups and performs minor procedures. During her down time, Sonia enjoys reading, gardening, music, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Having grown up in a small rural town in Virginia. Erica received her Bachelors of Science degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA; attained her Doctorate of Medicine from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN; and completed her Family Medicine medical training and residency program at Hidalgo Medical Services Family Medicine in Silver City, NM, where she focused on rural medicine. “I like rural family medicine, because it is how I grew up. My entire family saw the same doctor. And he was more than just the local physician - he was part of the community. I knew that I wanted to do the same thing.” Dr. Palin’s scope of practice includes all age groups, from Pediatrics to Geriatrics, and a variety of medical services, including prenatal care, women’s health, birth control counseling, weight management, chronic disease management and annual physicals.

A certified Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and certified Diabetes Educator., Karen-Lynn spent most of her career at the University of New Mexico Hospital as a nurse practitioner in Pulmonary-Critical Care. She received her Bachelor’s and Masters degrees from the University of New Mexico, completed the Respiratory Therapy Program at Biosystems, Tempe, AZ, and clinicals at Albany Medical Center in NY. She has been Adjunct Faculty at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing and faculty at CNM and St Francis University. She was a member of the Advance Practice Advisory Committee with the New Mexico Board of Nursing from 2010 to 2016, and her research and publications have been in the field of Adult Asthma, Cystic Fibrosis and Diabetes. Karen-Lynn worked at Sierra Vista Hospital from 2015-2016, returning in 2018.

ESTELA G. RUBIN, MSN, CNP
Having completed her Dental Degree in 1997 at the University of Cartagena in Colombia, Estela worked as general dentist in Bolivar Province until she moved to the United States in 2003. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at New Mexico State University in 2009 with honors. After working as a Registered Nurse in a variety of settings, including outpatient rural health, public health, and long-term care, Estala completed her Masters of Science in Nursing through Graceland University, MO and became a Family Nurse Practitioner in 2014. Estela joined Sierra Vista Clinic in 2015 and provide primary care to people of all ages. Her interests include women’s health, health promotion, disease prevention, wellness, and management of chronic conditions. She is proficient with insertion and removal of Nexplanon® for contraception and has completed training and attained a DATA waiver that allows her to treat opioid dependency in the outpatient setting by prescribing Buprenorphine-Naloxone.
